You can take cod liver oil and paracetamol at the same time. They are processed by the body using different pathways and do not interfere with how the other works.
Cod liver oil is a source of omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins A and D, while paracetamol is a painkiller and fever reducer.
How to take cod liver oil and paracetamol safely
Always follow the dosage instructions on the packaging for both products.
If you have any pre-existing liver or kidney conditions, it is always best to consult your pharmacist or GP before starting new supplements or medications.
Important precautions
Pregnancy
Do not take cod liver oil if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. It contains high levels of Vitamin A (retinol), which can harm the development of an unborn baby.
Liver disease
You must not exceed the maximum dose of paracetamol, as this can cause serious liver damage. If you have existing liver problems, you must speak to your doctor before use.
Concurrent medication use
Many other medicines (such as cold and flu remedies) also contain paracetamol. Taking more than one product containing paracetamol at the same time can lead to a dangerous overdose.
Food and drink warnings
Alcohol
It is best to avoid or strictly limit alcohol when taking paracetamol. Combining alcohol and paracetamol increases the risk of serious liver damage.
