Den STK11 gene (also called LKB1) provides instructions for making an enzyme called serine/threonine kinase 11. This enzyme is a tumour suppressor, which means that it helps keep cells from growing and dividing too fast or in an uncontrolled way. This enzyme helps certain types of cells correctly orient themselves within tissues (polarization) and assists in determining the amount of energy a cell uses. This kinase also promotes a type of programmed cell death known as apoptosis. In addition to its role as a tumour suppressor, serine/threonine kinase 11 function appears to be required for normal development before birth.

Glykogenlagringssjukdomar
Glykogenlagringssjukdomar are a group of inherited diseases. They result from a problem with one of the proteins (known as enzymes) involved in the conversion of glucose to glycogen, or the breakdown of glycogen back into glucose. They mostly tend to affect your liver and muscles. Most are diagnosed in childhood. Symptoms include weakness,.

Primär levercancer
It is not likely to be curative for primary liver cancer but may shrink the tumour down to slow the progression of the disease. There are new medicines being developed for the treatment of liver cancer. For example, sorafenib is a type of medicine called a multi-targeted kinase inhibitor. It interferes with the growth of cancer cells. Research has.

Muskeldystrofi
Usu... Also, if a child has delayed motor milestones (as mentioned above), a doctor may advise testing for MD, even though the problem could be due to another cause. MD may be diagnosed using one or more of the following tests: A blood test for creatine kinase (CK) - in many types of MD, the blood level of CK is very high. A muscle biopsy - this.

Screening för Downs syndrom
The rest of this leaflet concentrates on screening for. What is the difference between a screening test and a diagnostic test for Down's syndrome. There are two different types of tests that can be done to look for Down's syndrome during pregnancy - a screening test and a diagnostic test. See also Pregnancy screening tests. As mentioned above,.

Extrauterin graviditet
An ectopic pregnancy is a pregnancy which is not in the womb - the normal place. Ectopic means 'misplaced'. It occurs in about 11 in 1,000 pregnancies. Although many ectopic pregnancies are now treated without the need for an operation, you should always see a doctor urgently if you think you have an ectopic pregnancy symptoms. Symptoms include.

Narkolepsi is a long-term (chronic) problem that affects your sleep. You feel excessively tired during the daytime but have disturbed night-time sleep. You can also have sleep attacks where you fall asleep during the day without any warning. Many people with narcolepsy also have cataplexy. This is a condition in which you have sudden loss of.
