From everyday bugs to more serious conditions, infections come in all shapes and sizes. Our video hub offers expert information on a wide range of infections—including sepsis, malaria, threadworms, hand, foot and mouth disease, shingles, and more.
Sepsis
Sepsis is a serious condition where your body’s response to an infection goes into overdrive, causing widespread inflammation that can quickly damage organs and become life-threatening if not treated promptly.
Malaria
Malaria is a serious disease you get from mosquito bites. It causes symptoms like fever, chills, and tiredness—and it can be quite serious if left untreated.
Threadworms
Threadworms are small, thin, white, thread-like worms that infect the gut. They appear in your poo and can cause itching around your bottom.
Hand, foot and mouth disease
Hand, foot and mouth disease is a viral infection that causes sores in the mouth and a rash on the hands and feet. It is common in children.
Shingles
Shingles is a painful skin rash caused by the varicella-zoster virus — the same virus that gives you chickenpox. It causes a painful rash with fluid-filled blisters.
Swollen glands
Swollen glands are enlarged lymph nodes that happen up when your body’s fighting an infection. They usually appear as lumps under your jaw, around your neck, or in your armpits — they can also feel tender or sore.
Laryngitis
Laryngitis is inflammation of the voice box (larynx). It causes you to have a hoarse voice and is usually caused by a viral infection.
Sore throat
A sore throat is a common symptom of viral infections such as the common cold or flu. Most sore throats get better on their own.
Tooth infections
A tooth infection is a painful build-up of bacteria inside or around a tooth. It can cause a throbbing pain, swelling, and bad breath.
